Things to do nearby

Trail mornings, pond evenings, bay birding — all close to home.

Willapa Hills Trail

About a 5-minute walk from the home. This ~56-mile rail-trail between Chehalis and South Bend is relatively flat and family-friendly where surfaces allow. Local asphalt stretches about 5 miles between Raymond and South Bend. Hours are typically 8 a.m. to dusk; a Discover Pass is typically required for trailhead parking. Washington State Parks lists the Lebam to Heckard Road section in Raymond as closed October 19, 2026 through January 31, 2027 for trail improvements. State Parks also notes ongoing closures at milepost 38.5 west of Lebam (washout) and at Trestle 48 between mileposts 48–49 east of Heckard Road (unsafe due to erosion). Other portions remain open. Confirm on the official Willapa Hills State Park Trail page before longer rides. Willapa Hills Trail lodging guide →

Cases Pond

A small stocked trout pond just down the road, with shoreline access and a fishing dock. Under WDFW special rules, fishing is open only to youth under 15, seniors age 70+, and anglers with a disability who have a designated harvester companion card. Two-pole fishing is not allowed. Always confirm current rules on the official WDFW Cases Pond page before you go. Cases Pond fishing guide →

Willapa NWR & birding

Willapa National Wildlife Refuge and the broader Willapa Bay shoreline draw birders year-round. Friends of Willapa NWR and refuge visitor information are good starting points for trails, tides, and seasonal wildlife.
